Default need catback opinions please

I currently have LT's ORY and an LM1 catback with a Magnaflow 3" bullet muffler....car is LOUD and somewhat poppy (lacks good tone). I was wondering, should i just add a different muffler to the system in place off the bullet muffler, but wth would fit there? Or, should i have the LM1 cut over the axle and put in a "normal" crossflow mufler, and if so which..like the Hooker. Or does anyone here wanna buy my LM1 with the polished stainless Magnaflow muffler and i just buy a new catback? Is hooker about the best bet with h/c/i car for sound?

I love the sound of my hooker CB. With H/C/LT's it's going to have a deep loud sound.

You can try the SLP powerflo conversion kit (p/n 31086). It will add two small straight-through mufflers in the tailpipes.

I have this kit on my car and it sounds very good with my h/c package + headers + high flow cats + loudmouth II resonator. It's loud but not too much, and deeper in tone than my original catback (dual-dual).

Here's and old post with pics of my exhaust:

BTW you can also add high-flow cats. It will help to improve the sound of your car.

Good luck!

You can just buy the the hooker maxflo or Aerochamber (I have) muffler and it will sound better. I love mine!! You don't have to buy the whole catback.

I would find a used SLP 20TL system or just the muffler and tailpipes. It sounds like exactly what you want. Nice rumble, but not overbearing.

One of my friends dynoed his 97 LT1 Z28 (full bolt-ons, 1.6 RR) at 280 rwhp with the cut-out closed (OEM muffler) and 299 rwhp with the cut-out open.

The stock OEM muffler cost him 19 rwhp. But that's on an LT1 f-body. I don't know for an LS1, but it should be very similar IMO.
