The differences between a LS1 and LS6 are very minor, especially if you're changing internals... so I guess it all depends on if the mods done to the LS6 are the setup you're looking for and which way is cheaper...

The LS1 is quite a bit different to the LS2.... Like the relucotor wheel sensor. FINALLY GM made a kit to make this swap possible!!! So ya still need a computer to run the LS2, but the LS1 comp will work with the LS6. I'm pretty sure anyways. Correct me if I am wrong.

I had to make the same decision with a stock LS6. Since I knew I had a healthy bottom end I went with modding the LS1. It makes more to the wheels than the LS6 does at the flywhweel

Yeah SOMbitch, i feel the same way but im not sure if the bottom end is okay..I bought the bird 3 months ago..Nothing wrong but i saw a arming switch in the arm rest console, so im guessing the previous owner sprayed the engine, so im not to sure about internals..And its not the ls6 shortblock, its the Long Block out of a vette if im correct??..Ls2 used..Not Bad

Then you're probably better off modding the LS1... if you're unsure about internals, then do a forged 347. The benefits of the LS6 aren't going to be worth the trouble and your H/C LS1 is going to make alot more power.

stroker kit from TSP runs around $2500.. plus gaskets, bearings, etc.. I dropped about 4k on forged rods/pistons, heads and a cam by the time everything was said and done.. still got machine work though.

i would trade the ls1 for the ls6 and put a cam in that, i think that would be the most cost effective way, heads and cam are going to cost you 12-1500 for heads, 400 for a cam, so if you can get the ls6 for 500 and a cam kit for like 700 you still have money to put elsewhere, and you wont make much more with the ls1 heads cam than you will with a cam only ls6, atleast if you set everything up right

12-1500 for aftermarket heads, yeah i see your point, but my direction was just using some "243" and P/P those out, and a Vr3 Cam or a little bit better but not too much, and change valvetrain components and that's it for my engine plus some headers and exhaust, but i was just concentrating on engine for now..But yeah if was to pick up some Patriot heads or any other i would just go the Ls6 route, and whats also better is that it has the ls6 intake already so thats a plus...Ahh what to do when you want to go fast!!
