Default Question about something I found under the hood...

I was just looking over my engine bay this morning and found some black soot buildup coming out from in between the passenger side head and valve cover. It's not a lot, I was able to clean it off with my finger. I guess I'm asking if I should be worried about this or not. My car runs fine, I havn't noticed anything out of the ordinary. The engine did overheat a little bit last month because my thermostat took a ****. The temp didn't max out my gauge, I was able to shut the car off in time. Other than that, nothing wrong.

Check on it in a day or so, and run a rag all along the valve cover where the head and gasket meet. If you have a fresh oil , pull the valve cover off , and check the condition of you valve cover gasket. I had this problem, and all i did was remove it , clean it , and reinstall it. Havent had a problem since. Dont worry , its not a major issue. Just replace the gasket if its bad. Hope this helps.

No the headers are clean. The soot is coming directly from in between the head and the valve cover in the front. It's dry soot too, there isn't any oil with it.
