Default Oil pressure acting weird

ok so this has been a constant problem for a while now... at start up oil pressure is normal and it shoots up when at WOT once the car warms up the oil pressure kinda sits at 40psi at crusing speeds when i go to WOT oil pressure dips down a little and doesn't go above 40psi... when i return to a stop and it's idling the pressure goes almost to 20psi any idea what it could be???

How many miles on it and has it been taken care of? ie: maintenance, oil changes etc.

I had a similar problem with my 98 and it ended up burning up the rod bearings... good luck with it

easiest thing to try would be a new sending unit just so you can mark that one off the list. Seeing as they are notorious for going bad outta nowhere and give false readings.

Mine doin the same thing, but I'm overdue for a oil change. I'd try that before a sending unit. It's quick & easy. Mine does this every time I'm overdue on oil changes. So I'm changing my oil this weekend to see if it fixes like usual.

oil is changed religiously every 3k miles... car is stock internals except for a cam/pushrods/springs car has never done this before... and it has 95k miles on it... i gave a thought to the sending unit... it's just weird how it works fine until it warms up... geez shepp my condolences... and i seriously hope mine isn't that much of a serious issue

it calls in the owners manual for 5-20 that's why i use it... it has never had this problem before i guess i should bite the bullet and replace the sending unit behind the intake... it's gonna have to wait though because i'm taking off for air force training and when i get back the ls6 intake and NAAAAWWWWSSSS! is going on perhaps some heads while i'm at it thanks to all for the info

and i hope it's not like shepp's problem at all once again sorry to hear man

I have seen this on other engines with too much oil in the crank case (sometimes .5 a quart overfill). The oil gets airiated by the crank and foams up causing pickup issues. This is not likely your problem b/c we have a stock baffle; just thought I would suggest.

i have the same issue right now with the oil dropping....mine is about 1 quart over full.....i just got the car like 2 weeks ago and the dealership put in 5w-20 or 30 and over filled it...do you think if i put the right amount of oil in it and put 10w-30 in i should be ok??? i have no engine noise and the motor is @ 70k

it's worth a try if you believe changing oil will keep the needle up but since it was overfilled and you verified by how much and it's not dropping you think the pressure is just not there... not likely i'm going to have to say you are probably on the same boat as me and need a new oil sending unit...

let's hope and once again not like shepp

and for people that change there own oil do you guys put 6 bottles in there or 5 1/2???
