Default +7000rpm guys, in here please....

How many of you are running billet main caps?

How many are running ARP main studs?

What rods are you running?

Are you using the standard ARP rod bolts?

What are you using for bearings?

How many of you are running billet main caps?

VERY very few.. these are over rated IMO. you've got a 6 bolt main block man, think about it.

How many are running ARP main studs?

probably a good idea, but the stockers are fine too. 85 Ft LBS is still 85 ft LBS, reguardles of the fastener. if you're worried about this, you probably dont get much sleep at night.

What rods are you running?

eagle H-beams

Are you using the standard ARP rod bolts?

yup.

What are you using for bearings?

clevite 77's

After Harlan's experience with the billet main caps (trashed a crank, block, and $600 worth of caps), I ruled them out right then & there.

Lunati pro-mod rods, Lunati rod bolts, Diamond pistons. ARP studded mains. STock caps. http://akmcables.com/rods.jpg ( ~800k, dial up warning)

K, thanks for the info gents...

Now, the real question...

My combo will make over 440rwhp (on a Mustang dyno) naturally aspirated past 7200 rpm.
That means, powerwise, I could shift at around 7200...

Who's spinning that fast or faster and whatcha got?

Thanks! I just had a compression and leakdown test done at 14000 miles and it came out perfect. I think (and hope) the 2001's with the better rod bolts and oil pumps will hold up pretty well to this abuse.

I set up my new motor to go to 7300 rpms...

Eagle Rods
Comp R lifters
Y/T rockers 1.7's
~.005 lifter preload
FMS blower cam (not the most aggressive ramps)
FMS springs (Cranes I think)

Most setups don't even make power up there, most folks don't run enough spring.

The cam I'm getting is a gigantic solid roller (.700 lift, among other nastiness...) on stock cubes + a hone.

It's got MASSIVE springs, and will pull seriously hard up towards 7600rpm. The question now becomes at what point will the bottom end or something else crap out. It's getting a 150hp shot over the top, so that's a consideration too.

Depending on the setup, this is 9 second potential if things are done right and I can keep it together. I'm so interested in spinning it up high so that I can go to the biggest rear end possible and still get through the traps in 4th.

ONE 9.999 second pass and I can die happy.

Then it gets retired into a show car and very occasional cruiser.

"Due to runner length & the current lack of cost effective shorter runner intakes, the LS1 is limited to a 4800rpm torque peak....& thus 6200-6400rpm HP peak (due to the wave of the incoming intake aircharge as it bonces between the closed intake valve & open air plenum)."

"For those running an LS1/LS6 intake I'd say go with a cam that is ment to peak below 6400rpm. This works out quite well as most don't like shifting at 7K anyway. For an application with a shorter runner intake it'd be best to match everything in the setup for higher power peaks...including the cam."

...So if any of you are running an ls1 or ls6 intake, I have to ask: Why are you trying to shift over 7000? What have you been smoking?

I've been smoking lots of things.

Where would you shift that motor? Doesn't fall off until well past 7k. That's with an LS6 intake. Can't wait until the FAST (with 90mm TB) comes out.

And that's the old dyno graph. New heads, bigger cam will be on the car early next month.

First, I'm using a Weiand.

Second, the combo makes better than 440rwhp well past 7200rpm.

The above does not apply to those running boost or shorter length runners. Obviously. Chill, pacerx.
