What parts for high compression bottom end that will turn 9000 rpm
Hello, I am looking to build a higher compression race motor for my camaro and I want it to turn 9000rpm. I don't know if anyone has seen these cams yet, but in my new summit magazine crane just came out with what they call a RAPID RAMP camshaft.
What parts do I need in the bottom end to be able to turn such a high rpm. Also if I can get some of the cam gurus in here Id appreciate that too.
The cam I'm looking at is a solid roller with 276/286 degrees duration at @.050". the lift is .714/.714 and it says the powerband is 4600-8800.
If anyone has suggestions on a bottom end and high flowing heads let me know. By the way the block I am gonna build from is an LS3/L92 block.

Umm, wow thats a huge cam. Maybe some etp canted valve heads would work. Either those or some Texas Speed LS7 heads. The bottom end is anybodies guess. Cant wait to see some results though!

that is going to be some kind of rediculous build to spin that high. Ive never heard of an LSX spinning past 8 thousand RPM. and those are are $20,000+ engines.

fixed it. they have been shut down since the last of feb. I doubt, even if they get started back up soon, that any of those cams will see the light of day any time soon. Plus quick lift and quick ramp are their catch phrases...kinda like comps LSR, LSK, LSL.....same thing. You would come closer getting those from comp/lunati sooner than crane
and im nor sure but i think the LS7 will only work on bores over 4.100 unless you know something i dont...

you really think a wet sump would turn that and be anything less than$20K? If he is already contemplating the high revs, im pretty sure he would know to look at a dry sump with a multi stage pump. I would be worried about all the dollar bills being blown out the tailpipes at such a high RPM

Yea I'm definitely looking dry sump. I just didn't know if this would be feasible. You would think that they tested or built a motor to know the powerband went to 8800. I'm wanting to build a pretty nasty n/a motor. I was gonna build a procharged motor but then the guys that i race around here would bitch cus I have a power adder. The way I look at it is, anybody can use nitrous, turbo, supercharger. Its weither you choose to use it. Was wanting to do this with an aluminum block. Hell I mite even pick up an LS7.
What do you think the cost difference would be between this and now I'm thinking LS7 to build VS. building a 402 and an F1R procharger setup?

Your strongest prod. block would be an ls2 but you might be able to do it with an ls3 block or just go lsx block if iron or iron truck block
You are going to need a dry sump system
You top end will be varying.
Ls7 heads will do the trick but you will be able to do it better with a set of ETP canted valve heads but then those are dollars and a custom valvetrain to boot.
Just listen to some of the engine builders on here. They know what works and what doesn't. They wouldn't be in business if they didn't.

The original poster said 9k not 10k. I know Honeycutt has GRP rods but he pulls some serious rpm. Kempf had Dyers rods in one of his builds and you can't tell me he was only coming thru the traps at 7000 rpms.

My question is why are you building a setup around a camshaft you read about in Summitt catalogue?
Why not have an et that you want to run in mind, then talk to some of the engine builders and see what kind of power you would need to run that time, then figure out what setup will get you that power.

Ok, so you want low 9s NA. I'm sure a couple different shops could get you setup to do that, but keep in mind it's more than just power that's needed to get there, it's all about weight, suspension, drivetrain to do it.
I'm guessing that a 454+ cube lsx with all the supporting parts could get you to that target. Just do a search for the top 1/4 mile times and look at the na guys and see what they are running.
