Default Had my first ls1 for 30 min then BOOM!!

Just thought I would share the story and the pic’s. Everyone likes to see broken stuff.

So I bought the car and was told it had MS4 cam, new push rods and springs, Ported 5.3 heads all with 3000mi on them. And a bunch of other stuff that is not important for this topic.

So I get the car and start driving home. Made it about 40 Mi when I hear a not so good sound. I push the clutch in and the car dies. I cost to the side of the road and get out and check the normal things oil coolant look under the car all is normal. So I try to start it and it sounds like the starter is just spinning. So I get a truck and pull it home.

I finally get a chance to get underneath the car and find that casting for the starter bolt has broke and that one of the teeth is missing of the flywheel. So I get all this fixed and try to turn the motor over by hand and can only turn it half way in each direction. During the turning I can hear a scratching noise coming from the passenger side so I start tearing her apart and this is what I find......

HMMMM Somethings missing

OH.... There it is

NOT GOOD

Not good at all

I'd try for a refund on at least the heads. Those are not ported at all. Sorry to hear about the carnage so soon after you got it .
Is the block/liners OK?

Something tells me a car that won't start with a hole in a piston...won't pass inspection.

If the car ran perfect when you got it, then i definitely feel the seller intended no wrong doing.

The hard part is when you buy a car with modifications, you risk things breaking. Especially when its running the biggest camshaft that will fit in the stock shortblock

For all anyone knows (not saying you are, but saying what ive seen before) you could of been at 7000 rpm when it let lose at the top of a 160mph+ run in 5th gear....or been banging gears and went for 4th gear and slammed it back in 2nd and spun the motor 8000+ rpm and grenaded the valvetrain... Theres no way you can ask someone to warranty anything on a used car...

This is true. But hey, you know have an excuse to buy a new shortblock. That is the best way to look at it.

That motor wasn't setup properly. I can see eyebrows in the pistons from the valves hitting. 5.3 heads + MS4 - valve reliefs = blown engine. With that evidence I would go to the seller and try to get some money back.

Why? The seller would just laugh at you and say "sorry, tough luck". Which is exactly what I would do. He said he drove it 40 miles, the seller doesn't know what he did in that 40 miles. Even if the guy truthfully did not take it over 2,000 rpms it's still not the seller's problem.

To the OP- Sorry dude. This **** happens to us all at some point. But, on the bright side, you get to go bigger and better now!

Wow! Tough luck. My Dad had something similar happen to him a long time ago, and it happened to me when I bought my first car. Things were going great, then BAM!

What beast of a motor you gonna put in, in its place?
