Angry Giving up!!!!

Well, I though I had fixed my oil leak. New oil pan, due to my old one being cracked. I have been running it and it hadnt leaked anymore. Till last night that is. I did a couple of WOT and checked it when I got home and there it was again. Its leaking from the back of the block. Im thinking its the damn rear main. I replaced that over a year ago. Thinking about just tearing it all apart and starting on my 383 little by little. I just dont want to have it sitting in the garage not being able to drive it. This SUCKS!!!

Why not just chill out for a couple days and then go back to it so you can install the rear main seal. It's not that bad if you do it little by little in a few days. That way, you can still save/collect parts for the 383 and still enjoy your ls1 while doing so. Trust me, I know how it feels to be fed up with trying to fix/pinpoint something on a car.

If the engine is worn or the pcv system is not working, winding the motor up could produce a lot of blow-by and crankcase pressure, pushing oil out of the otherwise good rear seal. Try a catch can w/ a breather on it...........

I had one case as well with a customers car. One of the 10mm bolts for the main caps on side of the block was causing oil to leak out by the rear of the motor. Not saying thats what it is just good to look for.

I have a mechanical gauge hooked up and whe i spin it up to 6200rpms the pressure goes up to almost 100psi. Could this also contribute to the pressure build up/oil leak??

The torque specs on that engine are the same as yours. Did you use a torque wrench when you assembled it, or go by feel?

Check:

* Rear oil galley plug behind the throwout bearing.

* Valve cover leaks in back. Makes it look like its coming out of the back of the block.

Behind the throwout bearing?? Are you tallking about the tranny? The only one I know of is in the block.

I have replaced the valley cover gasket as well. It no longer leaks from back there.

The rear oil galley plug behind the pilot bearing and sits on the but end of the crank shaft... It's a bitch. And, it's been known to cause leaks. That kill clutches. Ask me how I know.
