Default 383 vs turbo!?!?!

Ok guys I need to be pointed in the right direction. Right now got a stock LS1 with a few bolt ons with a 125 wet shot. I'm in the miliatry and about to deploy so when I get back I'm looking to either go with the STS remote mount or an 383 build. Which do you think would be better? I know the turbo would be cheaper but less reliable. And the 383 would cost more but would be more reliable. Been reading my a** off online about the two but just cant make up my mind. Any input would be appreciated!!! Thanks

(P.S I'm wanting to get around 450+ to the wheels)

take the turbo's! you can use your car an every day use by installing an sts uneversal turbo kit. it also allows you to get 500+ rwhp!

I say build the 383, and build it with nitrous in mind to maximize performance on spray all the while still making a decent N/A number. No replacement for displacement.

On the turbo thing, how do those STS turbos like spray ? A sprayed turbo car would be bad *** too.

I would go 383 NA. You shouldn't have to spray your way to 450 rwhp. If you crank up your compression a 383 head/cam combo ought to put you there with ease. If I were to go turbo it wouldn't be a rear mount system.

either one will work, hell you could just do H/C to make those numbers though.

Hell do both. I started with the sts kit with a 67. Now still using the kit but have built the engine, threw a bigger turbo back there and upgraded a few things to make the STS better. But bottom line it can be upgraded and can make power I dont care what anyone says as I experienced it firsthand. Go with the STS to start its easy to install, easy DD and then if you want more power down the road change, turbo, upgrade fuel system and let it eat.

I think for the money the turbo is goin to be the way to go. reliable and good on gas if your not always on the floor. I would take a boosted motor over a sprayed motor anyday. I used to be a starter at a dragstrip i have seen what nitrous does to motors and blocks. Boost all the way

I would say a nice built 383 with h/c. You should make 450 fairly easy on motor and then keep that spray around for the occasional fun. I think it is the route i am going to go and i've been toying with the whole 88 mm turbo for awhile now.

I think that you have asked the question that you will get as many different answers as people answering. Also being that I am ex military with a 383 you have to deal with exhaust sound where as the turbo keeps it down. Now yes you can buy a quiet exhaust but why do a 383 build and have it sound like a stock LS1. Don't want to get the MP's attention specially if you live on base housing or barracks. Also a well installed turbo kit or a good reputable shop building your 383 both will be reliable. What it comes to is your preference and how you want to get to your HP mark.

Good Luck

do the turbo now...you will have the same power as a 383 for now..and plenty of room to build more later. if you build the motor now you will have to go through a lot of trouble to drop the compression later if you want to go with turbo.

I'd go turbo... You won't even know it's there untill you mash the throttle. Non one knows my car isn't stock untill I stomp the throttle and all hell breaks loose.

I agree. A 383 with a 125 shoot is good for 580+ rwhp all day long. The forged bottom end will take the abuse no problem. Stock bottom end with a turbo is a boom waiting to happen.
