High Oil Pressure (5.3 Silverado)
I was refered over here from a friend. Could you guys give some opinions on my problem.I have a 2002 Silverado 5.3 with 20,000 miles. The problem I having is that the oil pressure is reading 55-60 during idle and jumps up to 70-75 while driving steady at 2k rpms. This is when it reaches running temps. I can also hear a rattling sound from the engine when I drive around 1300 rpms. It's not real loud but I can hear it. Any ideas I'm planning on changing the filter, but I can't see how that can be the problem. I also was considering the sending unit or gauge issue but have read that others had done it with no luck. I'm just going to park it in the garage until I can figure this out, I don't want to do any permanent damage.
Thanks Ray

first is to change the oil, possibility is collapsed filter. if the problem continues try to swap out the sending unit. after a hi volume pump my car is at almost 70 psi in the morning but at hot idle im at about 55 psi. the stock relieve should be about 65 psi give or take on these engines, mine is set roughly at 73psi.

i have a 2002 siverado 2500 hd with 208000 miles. (thats right) and i also have two of the same for work and when warm at idle mine is 55-60 psi and 70 while cruising. i bought the truck from my work with 150,000 a year and a half ago. this is completely normal. the noise you hear is a gm ls motor. i have brand new chevy rentals at work that sound like they are running with no oil when first started. its a gm. got to love it. i plan on going 300000 on mine. hope this helps
