options for 5.3
before anyone gets pissed ive searched for my questons and i dont think the search is working or something it keeps saying no matches.
anyway im trying to find out what options i have for doing a 5.3 block> decent cubes that is. im not sure what rods/piston combo to buy. id like to take it to ls1 bore or bigger and have a longer rod as well. anyone have any info they could help with? id like to sty with in stock compression that an ls1 has. car will be run n/a for a bit and later be on boost. thanks jim.

Checkout our 383 rotating assemblies. That 383 combo can go into 5.3l/4.8l block no problem! Give us a call & we can get you lined out with parts, or possibly even build you a short-block!

If you have the block bored out to 3.90" (standard LS1 bore), then used LS1 rods and standard pistons, that will give you 5.7 liters. Have your machine shop check the block before boring it for core shift (to make sure there is enough meat to bore it). As for a longer rod, that probably gets into the more expensive forged stuff, but as long as you pick the pistons for that length of rod, the right stroke (3.62") and bore (3.90"), that'll work.

thanks for the info, so if i got a set of used forged rod/piston for stock ls1 there should be no problems as long as the block is ok? ive seen that 3.905 is about max on a 5.3 block so anywhere in between 3.90 and 3.905 is ok for a piston correct? thanks again for the help.

depends on what you do and what you want, but ive seen (whats been stated) that the 5.3 block is limited to the 3.905 bore. but as tsp said you could get a 383.
if its cheap cubes you want, why not start with a 6.0? plus they can be bored to 4+ and then the L92 heads are an option (the thought of a 2.165 intake valve is awesome).
then again, i read through the 370 vs. 383 debate not long ago....and im now digging on BORE!!!!

so far i think im going to use stock crank and a h-beam and a good piston 3.905 and below. just dont want to worry about putting a stock rod/piston with rod bolts from an ls1 and wounding when its going to break a ring land or something. 10-15lbs from a mpt70 is what im looking to do. im sure with that ill be past the mid 11et mark though.lol

hell yeah! if you got a 5.3 and want to get the most out of it, id suggest the same! boost it! pretty strong stock! my buddies a few months ago laid down 530/490 and would only rev to 5500....i think its a little over 600 now, pretty respectable for a 400 dollar truck engine!!! didnt know if you were wanting to use the 5.3 or go for cubes. but if your going boosted, cubes arent a huge deal, more than makes up for it!
