ls1 aluminum block options
Ok did some reading and some searching didnt really find the answer i wanted so. I have a 98 TA what can i do with the factory block as far as boring and stroking. Would a 4.000 stroke with a 6.125 rod give me a 383? Could i just bore it and make a forged 0.30 over LS1?

Yes, you can buy a 383 rotating assembly with 4.00" stroke crank & 6.125 rods to make a 383. You'll need the block bored/honed to a 3.905 most likely. Thats about the max bore I'd ever suggest to someone on a stock block.
Or save the money of the 4.00" stroker crank & build a 347 reusing the stock crank. Thats what I'm doin. What are your end goals, you stayin N/A, nitrous or boost?

I would be good with a forged 347 with a little gas maybe. As far as goals well i would like to keep it streetable and dont want to spend mega tons of money on it. Thinkin of sellin my 99 s10 with a sbc and putting the money in the TA. It has 130000 miles on it i wonder if the cly. would even clean up at .010?

Should, I opened mine up for my H/C swap with 103k on it & still had the stock crosshatchings in the cylinders. These motors are a different animal than the old school 350's.
With a 347 you only need a slight bore/hone. Stock bore is 3.898, since you'll want a clean up hone you'll either want a 3.903 or 3.905 piston. Run your stock crank with a set of ARP main studs & have the block align honed while having the cylinders taken care of too. Stock cranks are pretty damn stout and will be re-used in a 347 build.
I suggest either Diamond or Weisco for pistons & to save some cash but still get a good rod grab a set of Scat rods from TSP. On your pistons since your not wanting anything radical I'd suggest -4 Diamonds topped off with some 243 heads & stock MLS head gaskets.
