The newly designed Comp 918 springs are supposedly good to .625 lift, and they are far from "sucking". They're a good beehive spring, but in years past they had a few bad batches that broke prematurely. The issue seems to have been corrected.

Comp has had several bad batches of springs according to john at sdpc. He talked me out of them actually. The 918's have got a bad rap. But it seems when they don't break they are the ****.
I have no good answer for you. The way I understand it is that PAC made the 918's for Compm when Comp switched to another manufacter that's when they had problems. How long those problems lasted I don't know. That's the problem with the internet its full of bullshit.

PAC originally made the 918 for Comp and they still sell basically the same spring as the 1218 PAC. The 1518 PAC has further surface treatment to enhance the life of the spring and are slightly more money, but well spent money in my book. If you don't have springs yet, I would go with the 1518 from PAC.

^Good advice here and it was Associated who comp farmed out spring production to after PAC.
Can't really stress enough the importance of properly measuring and setting up the valvetrain. If I swap cams tomorrow, just drop in 918s without measuring installed height and not heat cycling, drive around the block at WOT, then come on here and post pics of my broken valve springs under a thread title of "comp 918 ruin my motor" it just adds to the perception that Comp springs suck and that's the end of the argument.
All that being said, I went with PAC 1518 because I think they're a better beehive spring, and not necessarily because I think Comp 918s will grenade my engine at startup.
