Help.Car turns over won't start. R my PRs too long?
I have heads milled .005 for trueness, comp R lifters and the same PRs that I had for my stock lifters, stock heads and TR230 cam. So I believe that I have 7.40s (that's what comes with the TR230 cam)
The car will crank and normal speeds but, won't fire.
I believe that my PRs are too long. Which means my valves are hanging open, correct? If so can you guys help me caluculate what length I need? Do I need shorter PRs or can I shim the rockers? And what estimate of size shims would I need?
Does the starting problem sound like my valvetrain is out of whack?
Thanks in advance.

It doesn't sound very likely. You may have a little bit too much preload with that setup for comp R's but not enough to keep it from firing. Borrow some 7.35" pushrods and check it out though. I have a set for sale if you want them.

Doubtful the pushrods are too long. Pull a plug wire and see if its sparking. Can you smell fuel? Maybe the cam pickup is damaged or the pickup marks on the cam were ground wrong?

I can smell fuel. The cam was used in my other engine so I doubt that anything is wrong with it. I disconncted the fuel line and instead of leaking out the fuel spat out. So I assume that the fuel is being pumped.
I remember a pop when I first tried to start the car, I checked the fuses and they aren't blown. How can I tell if a relay is bad?
I'm gonna pull a plug and wire and check for spark. I'll also need to check the injectors. What's the best way to check if the inj. are pulsing? Pull the whole rail, right?

Check u haven't burnt a fuse and make sure everything's plugged up...then possibly get a Tech2 or something to check out what the computer is seeing...

Yeah. The cam sensor is plugged in. I reached back there and made sure. So is the crank sensor. I checked the fuses and they don't look blown. My friend is bringing over a TechII. How much fuel pressure should I have?

I'm gonna pull the intake manifold off and recheck the connectors. I got the tranny dipstick tube in the way and had to pull the harness a bit (more than I liked) to get them to plug into the inj. on the drivers side. Maybe I pulled something more than just the harness?! I'll pull the manifold and re-route the harness.

I second the ground on the back of the head.. same thing happened to me. I'd pull a plugwire and check it for spark. Mine did spark, but it was erratic as hell.. Connected the ground and it fired right up.
Good Luck,

Here's something that was brought to my attention. This short block that I bought is a 98 and sensors that I put in it are from a 00 short block. Is that the problem? Is there a difference in the crank sensor pickups between the years?

I am using a cam sensor from a 5.3 L block, and no issues. I don't think there is a difference since all the lsx motors use the same pickup. Probably a bad ground, pinched wire, or something not plugged in tight. It will still run with too long of pushrods, just might not make the power.

It wasn't the freakin' crank sensor. I'm running out of ideas. I checked out the harness and the plugs. I turned the car over while having a plug out and there is spark. The number 3 plug is saturated with fuel on it but, 4,6 and 5 seem dry. Is that normal? And something keeps blowing off the rubber hose that connects to the intake from the pass. valve cover.
No fuses are blown.
