Default 799 heads

Are this heads better that the 241's? I have done a little research and it seems that this heads are the same as the 243's on the ls2 and ls6. Anybody has more info. on this particular heads? My plans are to go upgrade my 241 heads and put a decent cam. my budget is limited and I found a pair of 799 heads at a very decent price, just want to know if there are worth it.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, they are absolutely better.

Yes they are the same as 243s. THey will have heavy valves for sure, whereas the 243s have some with light valves and some with heavy.

Great heads...I have a set of 799 casting TSP LS6 stg 2.5 with Ferrea valves and they've performed great for me!

do the valves have to be changed? or are they safe for the same rpm ranges as normal ls1 valves?

They dont have to be, its just better to have a lightweight valvetrain for stability reasons.

Cool, I just picked up a pair of these with a recent valve job but no springs for a good deal, one of them just has some surface nicks but I planned on having them milled anyway so it should work out perfect.

I want to get them ported before they go on too...halfway thinking of trying it myself. My dad knows a lot about porting old sbc and bbc stuff...just never the new stuff I'm wondering if we could do a decent job.

FWIW I am not a newb when it comes to using die grinders though, been doing lots of things with them for years. Done some really good jobs porting throttle bodies and lots of delicate plastic grinding on various projects.

Are there any good guides out there that deal specifically with ls1 stuff?

Or can anyone recommend a sponsor who does affordable porting of provided heads?

Basically the same as an LS6 heads. They do not have the light-weight sodium valves. However, there aren't any issues with them that we have seen and we have used a LOT of them. They are usually worth another 15 HP or so over the LS1 heads. If you can get them for a deal, I say jump on it!
