Default high mileage ls1

i own a 2000 trans am ws6 with 170k miles on the motor and i am certain the top end needs some attention but this is my daily driver and i am lookin for top end upgrades that will not indanger the rest of the engine or put the top end at risk i want the carto perform well on the street but i also would like to stick with gm parts such as stiffened up ls6 heads with like a tr224 cam i would like this car to be drivable day to day but i am not familiar with the setups for the ls engine so i am curious what my options are for this scenario ... any ideas

What is your goal? More power? just freshen the top end?

I am sure he wants to get more power upgrading by replacing heads and cam as a combo. I suggest you do get those 243 heads an ls6 intake and a nice 228 cam. I dont know about replacing rings and bearings at this state anyone care to share if he is going to be stepping on it will it be necessary?

With that many miles on the bottom end, i would do a compression test just to get an idea if its worth it. or if you should just wait till you can rebuild and put together the motor you really want.

+1 for the compression check, also how does your oil look at your oil change? are there alot of metal fragments? I would try those out and then make a decision.
