Question Hmmm...RapTR or Vengeance VRX5

Well recently had the opportunity to do a cam swap on my z28. Can't seem to make up my mind on the raptr or the vrx5. Have heard good things about both cams, and their fairly around the same size. For now looking to make the most power on cam only, then few months down the line ill add a good set of head. My question is, what would be the best cam for what i have/want. I dont mind a lil cam surge, ive had large cams in the past, do like drivability. Once i install the cam i will be taking it to PatrickG in Victoria, to get it tuned.

Mods i currently have:

6 speed
slp lid and smooth bellow
Afr Tony Mamo camshaft specs are.... 224/228 .581/.588 114 +2
Comp .600 springs
Comp 7.400 pushrods
pacesetter LT's
UMI tubular lca's
UMI tubular panhard bar
drag bag's
moser axles with yukon 4.10 gears and aam aluminum diff cover
cross drilled and slotted rotors
centerforce DFX clutch and Fidanza billet steel flywheel
125 dry shot
slp line lock

Will be adding a powerbond underdrive pulley and Fast 90/90 setup as well as either the RapTR or VRX5 cam.

Can someone post like graphs of boths cams and or feedback of which would be the better of the two, i'd really appreciate it.

Default Lovin my Raptr

Do not have a graph for you, but with minimal bolt on's, and stock heads I put down 437 at the wheels corrected. That was with a speed density tune, M6, and 4.10's. I am going back to the dyno this weekend with the bigger injectors, and will get a graph for you once we retune it.

Amazing cam!!!! Unreal power, and great street manners. Does like gears though as it really comes on strong around 2500rpm and will not stop up to 7000+...

Thanks biohzrd for the feedback, thats exactly the kind of feedback i wanted to hear. Any vids of the car? Audio of what it sounds like and like track times?

Here is an idle clip for a car they did a while back. Hopefully I can get my car in there shop next month to install my TFS 215's and RapTR cam! I have all the parts they just need to be installed.

I have VRX5. It really pulls strong up top (after 3500). I have 3.42 gears currently and the cam really would like some different gears. I see you have 4.10s so that is good for either cam. Either choice will be good. I don't know the specs on the raptr cam but it may be splitting hairs by choosing one or the other.

yea that pretty much the only video, that and one with a gto, that ive been able to find with that raptr cam. Im hoping to make a good amount of power with the fast 90/90 and this cam, for the time being until i get some heads for the car.

anyone have a graph on this cam?

I don't have a graph of my car. It'll be within the month I'm going to a dyno day. I'm sure my car makes north of 400rwhp with vrx5, fast90/90, udp, etc. (My fquick has full details).

Some other points I left out in my first post. It has a little surge beneath 1500 but only in 1st gear and typically before the car is warmed up. Gears should fix that. Otherwise the car drives the same as with the stock cam in it.

This particular cam and video was just installed and recorded on INITIAL startup. No kidding. Some tweaking of the tune was performed afterwards, but it ran just fine and surprisingly was still under 14:1 air:fuel.

man, i probably would have spent the money on a 215 head and seen the power gains with that setup..then go and get the cam. definitely keep us updated.

I agree, I would have looked into 205s, 215s or a decent set of heads before I swapped cams. Then if your still not happy, have a custom cam made.

Well the EPS cam is in, should start it up today after work. Mods done to accompany are as follows.

EPS 234/246 .601/.606 11lsa
PowerBond U/D pulley and belts
Fast 90mm intake
Nick Williams 90mm tb
COMP 7.425 pushrods
Comp .650 valvesprings
New o2's
New set of Ngk tr55 plugs
New fuel filter
New K&N aircleaner

also had the fast intake painted, polished the 90mm tb, and had the coil pack brackets and throttle cable brackets powdercoated in a ceramic coat finish and had the valve covers and timing chain cover powder coated in a mirror red finish.

Will post pics when i get a chance.
