big cam..your thoughts
so just kinda thinking out loud and wanted to see what some of you guys think..
any way I have TSP stage 2.5 5.3 heads and a custom 232/238 6xx 6xx 111 lsa cam on xfi lobes..The cam was specced when I had aTCI 3500 stall and 3:23 gears...
Well now I have 3:73 gears and A 5c(42-4400) stall..Car runs great but thought since I really dont need to worry bout low end anymore with the new stall and gears thought about stepping up to a big cam such as the vindicator 240/244..
(Have a gift card coming from vengeance)..
How much more rwhp could one expect from switching over, and yes I know I'd have to fly cut..

The low end is one thing, but also consider your shift rpm. If you aren't turning the rpm to extract the extra power out of the cam, then there is no point in running it. Auto transmissions typically dont like high rpm shifting so a built trans would be a bare minimum.

Yeah I agree on the built trans, and where do you wanna shift at ,big cam you will be spinning it very high,I have a m6 with a ms4 and my car drives really well but you will have some bucking at lower rpms ,mine is very light, also for a big cam I would go with a higher gear than 3.73s,I love my ms4 but you got to set it up right, lifters, high gears, etc,I'm gonna run a 4.30 or 4.56 in my new rear,I will say up top my car pulls like crazy, its like the rpm just flys to 6900,also rod bolts is a good idea if you are gonna spin that high,I think you have a pretty good setup ,are there any other reasons why you want to big cam it?

just to clear things up..I have a built RPM transmission, and stall is a 42-4400 stall along with the 3:73..I do have katech rodbolts,ls7 lifters
just looking for a lil extra power uhm thought a bigger cam would match my new gears and stall better..but if its only gonna be 10-15 horse I'll look elsewhere..

Also what times are you running now, also it wouldn't hurt to call tsp,or another sponser and talk with them to see if they think its worth it,I just couldn't tell ya if its worth it or not,I have an opinion about it but its just a opinion.and I don't want someone to throw away money,I would say keep what ya got and get a fast and have it ported by tony mamo
