Default Compression check pointers........

Alright sorta new to LS's just picked up a 02' LQ9 for my 69 camaro would like to do a compression check, couple of ? motor doesn't have any oil in it, do I need to add a quart or 2, also I probably need to shoot some lube of some sort into the cylinders...what to use? Does the intake need to be on for the comp test?

appreciate the input.......

Defineatly put oil in it...intake can be off...hook a starter to it to crank it over to check the compression... lube might help, but if the rings are shot the lube might give you a false higher reading

how would lube give you a false higher reading? what good would dry compression readings do you? do you run your engine with no oil? the only thing a dry then wet compression test will tell you is if your rings are shot. if your readings are higher wet than dry, you have a cylinder sealing issue.
