Default CNC LS1 heads or LS6's

Looking for info on a 400+ rwhp LS1 build. Is it better for the money to have my stock heads cnc'd or just use stock ls6's? What do cnc jobs cost? Sponsors come on an guide me here.

Yes, this will definitely be needed to answer your question. LS6 heads (Casting #243/799) are known to be able to make huge power if you get them in the hands of a company that knows what they're doing (Advanced Inductions, TEA, etc.) IIRC, a typical CNC job from one of these companies is around $1K. I'm not sure if that's the going rate to CNC any type of head or what the deal is. But bottom line, you'll be making more power with some AI CNC'd 243's than any other CNC'd GM casting head that'll work with your LS1.

More info on the build would be nice, but you would probably be at a better starting place with the LS6 heads IMO. They make more power out of the box, have a smaller combustion chamber, and will flow more once ported as well. We have ported tons of LS6 heads with a lot of success.

Hey John I think I just talked to you a few hours ago. As per your suggestion I am gonna buy a set of assembled ls6 heads. Im just tearing down the motor now. Basically it's gonna be a stock bottom end rebuild with ls6 heads, I will need your help picking a cam (around a 7k rpm shift like stock ls6's but I would like it more aggressive with a pretty smooth idle) I don't want my dd to lopey. Don't know about intake yet advice? Of all the shops I've talked to you were by far the most helpful and knowledgable so I want to do as much business with you as I can. Oh and the car is a '00 trans am with an auto.

yea i would say 243's are your best bet. i plan on getting mine ported by AI because they have been producing very high flowing heads and they know their ****. as far as intake a fast 90 or 92 would be the best to compliment your ported ls6 heads. if that is not in your budget, the ls6 intake is still a good purchase because it is generally good for roughly 15 rwhp over the stock ls1 intake.
