Default Just got some AFR 205cc heads

I picked up a set of used AFR 205cc heads from my best friend today for a deal that i could just not pass up! He purchased them for his c6 ls2 but changed his mind and now is going FI. They only have a few thousand miles on them and look almost new . I am tempted to install them on my car asap but I also want to send them to Tony Mamo for some work. I know my long term plans are to have him do the heads and a FAST 102mm/TB for my car but it could be awhile before i can swing the budget. These heads are the 66cc versions and they would be going on my 02 C5Z with the below mods.

2002 C5Z (428rwhp and 365rwtq) SAE tuned by Bluecat
1. ECS Big N/A camshaft
2. ARH 1 7/8" headers with 3" x-pipe (no cats)
3. Stock Ti
4. SLP UD pulley
5. vararam CAI/Powerduct

yea been pm with tony the last couple days about my build. Going to hold off on the install until i can afford to him work my heads over, port a fast and match a camshaft to my build. May take awhile but his builds just perform so well.

the heads were used before my buddy got them. They appear to be in really good shape and like he was told they only SHOULD have a few thousand miles on them. Came off a 6.0 GTO that was wrecked. Posted some pics below of the heads. How do they look to you all? They have double valve springs but i am not sure what lift they are rated at. I have comp 921 springs on my ls6 heads that i installed with my ECS camshaft. May just switch the springs out when i do the install.

starting my engine tear down this week ! What are some fair prices on the below parts?

1. 02Z ls6 heads with 33k miles? Depending on springs that are on AFR heads could have dual valve springs (AFR springs or leave Comp 921 springs on them)
2. 02Z ls6 intake with 33k miles on it?
3. Stock LS6 throttle body?

1. 450-550 for the heads
2. 300-350 for the ls6 intake
3. 75 or so for the TB.

guys if you look at the above pics you can see that some of the valves/combustion cambers have numbers in them. I dont think this is right and i am wondering if that would affect anything. i plan on having mamo work the heads over and this may just remove the numbers with the metal he removes. any IMO

Looks like someone marked them to keep track of the valves and where they go. For the springs, have Tony check them while he has the heads. They are probably AFR's, he'll know for sure. They may be good to go, they can check spring pressure.

Just sent Mamo an email to see if i could send them to him to be checked out. Cant afford to have him do the port work yet but i dont mind spending the funds to check the heads out at this point.

i found a new unported 90mm FAST intake for a fair price. Of course i would have it ported along with the heads if i got it. Does the 90mm intake require anything other than a 90mm tb for the install? Is the 102mm Intake a lot better? I have read a few post about the 102mm not fitting c5 vettes very well. Seems like some do some dont lol. If the 90mm fits and performs well ported it could be a good deal.

We sold those heads in October of 2005.....

The barcode was helpful....in fact we had just started using the barcode system back then.

The valves look to be aftermarket also....certainly the intake valve is by the shape of the dish (our OEM valves are flatter in the center).

My guess is the heads have some time on them....guides might be an issue, and they were obviously cleaned up recently.

Note the temp sender epoxied to the head to show if a customer overheated the engine....common deal with yards or shops that sell used/reconditioned engines to void any bad warranty work from a customer who might have overheated it first....protects them from liability that way.

They look good....my biggest concern would be the actual run time on them and the condition of the valve guides and valvejob/valve face sealing area but as we quickly touched on via PM, even if you had to invest in guides and a new VJ, your still looking good financially when the smoke clears.

Good luck!

i am sticking with my stock heads for now. Just going to have Mamo port me a set of NEW 210cc heads, port my fast 90/90 combo and spec a matching cam at one time somtime next year. Going to install the FAST/ls2 TB out of the box and get my car retuned for now. At least i will get to see a fair comparo between my stock ls6 intake/tb vs the FAST/LS2 combo.

Got my FAST intake in and it is a 92mm not a 90mm . It was listed as a new in box 90mm. My ls2 TB is going to be here today so i should be able to get everything installed by tonight. I am hoping it will run okay enough to drive it to the dyno for tuning. I am sure the idle will be off with the ls2 90mm TB.
