can anyone tell me what the difference between 317 ls head and a 243 ls head .

317s are 6.0, 72cc heads, 2.00 intake 1.55 exhaust valves. Ver similar in design to the LS6 but with bigger chambers and a 4.0 bore chamber.
243s are 2 kinds, The light valved Z06 castings and the stainless valved ones, on LS2s, 5.3L etc motors. (similar castings are 799), 64.5cc, 2.00/1.55 valves.

Ported yes, it really depends on the compression you wish to run. Both can reach over 300 cfms properly done.

ok if them heads will work will they work with the std bore 395 cu in or do i have to have a 4" bore to use these heads thx joe

You can use them on 3.9x bore. 317s are used frequently on LS1/6 bores to lower compression for boost situations. Be aware if you use them you'll need 4.0 bore head gaskets
