Default oil pump O-Ring

quick question for those that have swapped oil pumps. I just put in a Melling M295 oil pump. i used the black O-ring that came with the pump. i lubed up the o-ring w/lucas oil, put it on the pickup tube, put the pump on and rotated the pump onto the tube, then i centered the tube and o-ring and with a slight bit of pressure/using my fingertip as a pry bar on the back and front of the tube it sorta sat or poped into place,,, i then red lock tighted the pickup tube bolt and bolted it to spec... does this sound right??? or did i smash my o ring? dont want to take it apart after its all back together.

What I know u are supposed to use the green O ring. People have had problems with other O rings red ones and others get pinched. If u lubed it then it might be ok. Good luck

the black o ring looked closer to the size of the stock o ring. i tryed the green one but it seemed like it was to large and would require me to force it into place. so i used the black one,,,, just hopen i did the right thing i read a post on hear the other day and i belive it was a MOD who said the black O-ring is for the f bodys and vettes and the green o ring was for the trucks (i guess the LS truck motors came with different pick up tubes)

You're fine. Green is the truck "O"-ring. I have used each on F-body type pump installs. Besides, you'll know if it's an issue when it's started. IMO, there won't be an issue.

when i fire it up, should my oil pressure come up immediately or is there a priming delay?

ok i got some hard info:

Specifics:

1st design) Oil Pick-Up Tube O-Ring 12557752
Chevy/GMC Pick-Up (1999-2000 LS V8) 1st design
F-Body (1998-2002)
Cadillac CTS-V (2004-2007)
Corvette (1997-2008)
Thickness = 3.55mm (0.140")
ID = 23.60mm (0.930")

2nd design) Oil Pick-Up Tube O-Ring 12584922
Chevy/GMC Pick-Up (1999-2000 LS V8 engines with 2nd design pick-up tube)
Trailblazer (2003-2008 With LS V8 engine)
Hummer H2 (2003-2008)
Hummer H3 (2008 With LS V8 engine)
Chevy/GMC Pick-Up (2001-2008 LS V8 engines)
W- Body (2006-2008 With LS V8 engine - Impala, Lacrosse, Grand Prix)
Thickness = 4.20mm (0.165")
ID = 20.69mm (0.815")

to translate into the melling Oil pump O rings: the Black O-ring is for 1st design pick up tubes (all models are listed above), the Green O-ring is for the 2nd design pick up tubes (all models are listed above).

if it slid in without forcing it to much and without pinching it then your all good (i asume, then again i asked the same question). but i know alot of guys have used the green one... i was looking at a corvette forum and all those guys said green. i tryed to put the green one on, it just wouldnt fit without really jaming it in there (and i know that aint right), so i put the black one on and it slid in like the stock one

Yeah it took some pressure but not a lot. I'm sure it will seal ok though. Hopefully

It will take a few seconds to prime. Depending on what gauge you have, it will either be almost immediate (if it's a dummy gauge) or will build pressure after say 10 seconds or so if it's a true pressure gauge. Did you pack the pump w/ vaseline to prime? Regardless, it's fine. Go start it up.
