sporadic smoking
I have a 2005 Silverado with 116k on and I have a strange smoking issue. When I start it up in the morning it doesn't smoke. I drive it 30 miles to work and let it sit for a few hours until I go to lunch. When I start it then I get a pretty good puff of smoke. It doesn't smoke while it running just on start up and it doesn't really smell like oil or coolant. It seem to do it after I drive it a good bit and then it sits for a few hours. Any ideas?

I have the same exact problem. I have a 2006 Sierra 4x4 ext. cab with the L-33 engine. I bought the truck new and by around 60 k I noticed that I had to add oil before oil changes. I now have 155k on the truck and it has been doing what you are saying for at least 40k. I would love to know what is wrong as I am about the start pulling the engine. I would love to hear I only have the screw with the top end. Any thoughts?? anyone?

I was going to try this but figured the valve seals should either leak oil or not leak oil. We seem to get smoke at start up, but not all the time. Today when I left work; nothing. Figured there must be more to it...
