Default help with 5.3 into a s10 build

Im picking up a 5.3 from a friend this weekend, and as soon as I move into my house next month Im looking for a s10 to swap it into. This wont be my DD,and will be a street/strip/car show cruiser. 12.99 in the 1/4 would be my first goals. Whats a basic direction to go with the 5.3 to start off? Port the 5.3 heads,ls6 intake, etc etc? Whats a good size cam and stall to go with?

When I had a 5.3 in my S10 with just a cam and bolt ons it ran middle 12s on a slower than usual track. It was an LM7 5.3 with a TR224 cam, swap headers, 4000 stall, and a 3:73 gear. It ran 12.52....

Like above, I'd say a 224 or a 228 and great stall like a Yank or Vig should get you there end the ported heads will help out even more.

Port and mil the stockers or get some 243s port and mil(to get compression back up), ls6 intake, longtubes if you can afford it, under drive pulley. I'm towards the end of my swap. 2000 Sonoma 5.3 with 243s, ls6, UD, 4.10s, t56, longtubes, etc.

Some awesome info in this thread. Is there a huge power and driveability difference between the tr224 and 228r cams?

In a 5.7 the 228 is on the larger side of the mild cams, so in a 5.3 it would be more aggressive, but with a good tune still very street friendly
