99-00 LQ4 Crankshaft length and T56
Okay, so I have read ever thread I could find on this, but every one that I read through didn't give an answer in the end.
So my problem is, there is a 2000 LQ4 that I can get pretty cheap, I know it has Iron heads but I'll have 241 heads from a friend if I want. I also know that the crankshaft is longer than 2001 and up LQ4s.
So how to get a T56 to work?
Options I have searched are
-Swap the crank for a newer 2001 and up LQ4 (I know this works) or would a 5.3 or LS1 crank work since they are the same stroke, but need to be balanced due to the difference in weight (rather avoid swapping a crank)
-Machine the end of the crankshaft (Have not found anyone that has actually done this, Would like to try this to avoid swapping cranks. Also don't know how much needs to be machined, saw 2 different lengths .400" and .300"?)
Or should I just pass on it, I was originally looking for a 5.3L but haven't found one in my area.
And if I pass, the earlier 5.3L engines don't have this issue do they?
Thanks in advance for the help, My head hurts from everything I've read today.

That crank is about .400 longer. By the time you swap cranks you'll have a lot more money in it than you will in a motor that's a little newer or a 5.3. Crank swapping will require balancing. An LS1 T56 won't bolt to that crank. An LT1 T56 will but they are hard to find or you could change the input shaft on the LS1 t56 to lt1. Your5 best bet is to find a different motor.

I currently have a LT1 T56, so will it bolt up, with a LS1 bell housing, Which flywheel and clutch would I have to use, or is it still too much work or money at this point.
Thanks
