Default Junkyard stroker options???

Yes, I'm making another stupid thread. Wasn't able to find much but I found a few things.

For humors sake, let's say we wanted to junkyard together as many parts as possible. I've done it with other platforms with success. What's possible?? After some research, apparently SBC rods can be used in LS engines. What else?? Any non-ls cranks fit?? What about non-ls pistons??

The 3.622 stroke most of the LS variants use is a pretty darn long stroke(for a production engine) already. You are barking up the wrong tree again.

I'm not trying to bark up any tree, I'm just curious whats out there. I'll use a BMW engine as an example, just because it's what I'm most familiar with. In BMW land for example, we can mix and match hundreds of parts. For example, any of the E36 & E46 non-M 6 cylinders are all an 84mm bore. E46 330 motor is an 89.6mm stroke (same as E36 M3 S52, same crank p/n even). Swap in crank/rods/pistons into your existing E36 engine, for example, yields a ~3.0l engine in what was once either a 2.5 or 2.8. E30 M20 cranks/rods/pistons all interchange between different models, and use the same 135mm rod length as many of the newer engines as well.

I know all Gen III cams are interchangeable, not that you'd want to use some of them, but they are. This is just a mind exercise in frugality is all.

Lets assume a truck motor, since we're talking about junkyard stuff & budgets. Like a 5.3 or 6.0 (or even a 4.8).

I think everything but the 4.8 and LS7 use the same 3.622 stroke and stroking the 4.8l with that longer stroke gives you a 5.3l. Which is probably easier to find anyway.

People have overbored 5.3l or 4.8l iron blocks to the LS1 bore. The aluminum blocks like the LS1 are really really bore limited though, I mean most shops will recommend no more than .005" over.

Since most of the engines share the same crank though it is mostly the blocks that varied and that is usually the expensive part. It is all hugely interchangable, but GM already did the work of offering a lot of options all in one foundation.

Can't be cheap when it comes to stroking an LSX
