Default lifter preload

building an lq9 with 243 heads, hr288 comp cam, ls7 lifters. what lifter preload does every one prefer? .050? measured push rod length today and came up with 7.300. what push rod should I get?

Although 0.050" or even a little less will work, based on the threads here that I've read, I believe the recommendations for preloads on the LS7 lifter run from 0.060" to 0.100" with 0.080" being a popular target.

I went with ~.080" for preload on my LS7 lifters.

I have around .080" on mine as well and the valvetrain is very quiet

That's a pretty short pushrod. Are the heads milled or using a thinner head gasket?

Could you clarify the 7.300 measurement?
Was that actual measurement not taking pre-load into account?
If so get at least 3.375 or 7.400 will work.
