Default Ordered Mast Small Bore LS3's

I haven't been able to find ANYTHING about the Mast small bores. And they really intrigue me. It's something different, new, and really "outside the norm." Right up my alley.

Thoughts or opinions please.

This isn't about any other heads than the two mentioned.

SOMEONE out there has these (small bores), or ran them. I want to see graphs, torque lines, you name it.

Man I wish I had my small bore ls3's on already. What's gonna cost a good chunk is valvetrain. I've had a hell of a time finding a spring kit for 5/16 stems. The quality is there, its just gonna cost $ to get em setup right. Goodluck with your decision

You have and bought the Mast Small bores? I'm going with the lightweight valves and Mast Dual spring kit myself, whether it's the cathedral 215's or small bore LS3's.

Any pics you can share?

Yeah I've had em for going on a year, but life comes at you and they've been on hold. Moved, became a father, changed jobs you know how it goes. I'll try and put some up for you, I think I had posted some in another thread somewhere. I ended up going with hollow stem intakes and solid exhausts. I have a set of psi 1511's I'm thinking of running but not too sure if they'll be up to task with these long valves. I almost put em up for sale but the wife said no, she's a keeper lol. I'll see ifbi can put up the pics tonight

I look forward to them! Thanks!

The debate right now is what cam I'll have spec'd, what cc to mill to, and what manifold. What cc did you wind up going with? Stock rockers using their stands?

The medium runners were a game changer for me with the Fast, but having a 240cc intake port, I sure don't need the LS3 fast and lose even MORE low end torque.

The 215's on the other hand may be perfect, allowing me to use medium runners on the cathedral 102, while still keeping good torque bc of the runner size and compression I'll be running.

Figured this info would help:

2004 Corvette M6 39k mile (stock) LS6 short block
Pfadt 1 7/8 x 2.1 x 3 Tri-Y headers
Catless 3"x pipe, thats 2.5" right at the end Corsa Extreme (pretty much a straight pipe; no 180* bends after the over axle part)
Blackwing intake

With the heads I'll be installing the ARP studs (already have)
.40 or .41 head gasket (Cometic or FelPro)
LS6 ported pump
Hinson C7R seamless timing chain / billet gears, Torrington bearing
POSSIBLY Katech rod bolts

Rear will be getting 3.90's with C6z guts and shafts

The kicker here is spec'ing a cam that not only works with the large runner heads, but has sufficient (more than most) overlap to take full advantage of the Tri-Y headers.

Man that Mast stuff is just so nice, has to be a tuff decision. To me the 240 runner would give up some under four grand responsiveness on the 346. If drag racing only or planning a future 383 then go that route as the LS3 intake from GM is a really good piece.
If you are gonna stay 5.7 for a good while then the 215s or Mamo's new 220s would be more explosive all the time. Ed C. will have your camshaft whichever way you go and with the .5 OD of the M6 trans, 4.10s is also an option.

Hey man! I've still got a PM i need to retrn to you. Just been busy. Yeah, I called and spoke to Chris @ Mast for while this morning. I'll be going with the LS3's definitely, as I do plan on a stroker down the road anyway.

I'll trade some responsiveness for some all out power above 4k. I rarely live under that anyway, unless I'm just putting around town.

I've got a guy 5 minutes from me that wants me to trade my stock rear for his 4.10 rear... But man... Mine only has 39k miles on it. His has way more than that. I figured 3.90's would be a good compromise between the two.

Of the two choices, you can't go wrong with either one. Knowing you Dave, I know whatever head option you pick, you're going to get a custom cam that's designed to work with the heads and the rest of the mods you already have. My personal feeling is the MAST small bore LS3 heads would be better. I'm sure you'll have Ed do you up with the custom cam, and with Ed being who he, you know he'll get that cam spot and, and if you emphasize that you want to make sure to have that good, low end power/torque (4,000 rpm and below), he'll get it done for you. I just think there is greater power potential with the MAST small bore LS3 heads. I think a lot of the time when people say they lack that 4,000 rpm below power/torque, it's because the cam they are running is not specific for those heads. Even if you have the perfect spec'd cam for the MAST small bore LS3 heads, and you do have a minor loss of low end power/torque over the MAST 215cc cathedral ports, does it really matter? How often are you at 4,000 rpm's and below? Where those MAST small bore LS3 heads really shine is at 4,000 rpm's and up. With the right cam, I'd say there is a significant gain in in HP with the MAST small bore LS3's over the MAST 215cc cathedrals.

You'll make some more power for less overall money with the small bore ls3 heads. The cathedral port will need an aftermarket intake while the small bore can use the stock intake. The valve isn't much bigger and you can't really compare the port sizes as they're different designs. I'll bet the small bore only has a slightly bigger csa than the cathedral port. Buy the small bores and call Ed@FTI. I love the headers. I wish I could get a set of those same exact ones for my car.

Well I changed the thread title.

ORDER PLACED!!

Got the hollow stem valve upgrade and they're coming with PAC 1221X springs. Time to start the search for the LS3 intake, LS2 TB, rail, injectors... Let the fun begin.

Nice Dave! I know you'll be happy with the purchase. Time to call up your old friend for the cam.

This is going to be a build done in increments. Gotta source rockers and all too. It took a lot for my wife to give me the go-ahead for this. She always puts herself on the back burner. I gotta do some things for her as well.

Where did you order them from; MAST directly? Any timeframe on when they ship out?
