Default ls2 pistons in lq4?

came across a very affordable set of OEM replacement ls2 pistons. just curious if it's worth doing this since the motor will be rebuilt anyways and i could stand a little more compression. going underneath 799's and a healthy cam.

Yes it's worth it. With some shaved 799s and thinner headgasket you can get in the mid to high 11s as far as compression. High compression and a big cam is a very good combination as it helps with the midrange that might be lost with the cam.

Good stuff. Think I'm sold. Will also be doing arp rod bolts and main studs. Hoping for a solid budget combo.

I'd stay away from doing the rod bolts unless you can get them and the machining for a good price.

By the time you purchase the bolts themselves and do the work, you could've bought some budget forged steel rods that already include ARP bolts.

Much better than the Gen III rods in the LQ4.

Was actually looking into scat rods. Would it be a waste to run gm pistons on top of better rods though?

What year is your LQ4 , if its 2003 or earlier you going have pressed pins and is not compatible with LS2 piston. Factory rods that will work LQ9 or 2005 later rods. GM started introducing floating pin in late 2004 , so some have them and some don't .
