To build, or have built?

To build, or have built?
so i just got off the phone with a local machine shop (C&D Engines, if anyones curious) and got a quote for machine work/assembly of my shortblock.
Was quoted 1k for the machine work and 300 for assembly.
Now, 300 bucks for assembly isn't a big deal for me, but a part of me wanted to try my hand at building the motor myself.
for those of you who have built your own motors, opinions? (I was planning on following what this guy said in his youtube series )

I was just reading through that thread actually. Your son does amazing work, you must be really proud.
Also, which book was it? There's a lot on building high performance LS1s, I wanna make sure I get the right one lol.
