oil pump/oil pressure questions
Are the gerotor type oil pumps in our LSx engines 'all or nothing'??
In other words, can they go bad slowly (from wear?), and gradually lose the ability to produce the needed oil pressure, or do they just fail catastrophically (like break teeth off of the gears) and stop pumping altogether?
What are the effects at the op gauge if the (oil pump's) pressure relief valve is either stuck, or the spring is broken/weak?
Would it read high, low, or always be 'twitching'/fluttering, or no effect at all?
Same question for a clogged pickup screen, and oil galleys.
Thanks in advance,
Dave H.
