N/A 346 Build
Well after several months of reading on these Forums I have finally decided on a Max Effort drivable 346 N/A package. I tossed the idea over and over between FI and N/A and I currently have a supercharged C4 that is a blast to drive. This is my first LS...bone stock 03Z that is an amazing car as is but the Mod bug hit me and here I am. Long story short I ended up talking to Tony Mamo and after many lengthy conversations I took the bait and ended up buying his top end package. Yes i know FI is a little cheaper and more power but I decided to mod the Z just the opposite of my C4. Why have 2 cars the "Same" when I can have the best of both worlds plus I have no idea what to expect with a properly built N/A LS motor. The car is in the shop and should be completed within 2 weeks. The Mamo package for the 346 is....
MMS 220 heads 59CC 11.5 compression
Mamofied FAST 102
Ported LS2 TB
Yella Terra rockers
Johnson short travel lifters
ATI UD Damper
Roll master chain
Manton push rods
Comp Cam 227/231 114+1
RPS Full Carbon Clutch
39# Bosch injectors

Well dang...Should be on heck of a build once all is said and done. Just out of curiosity, why didn't you get a cam specced for the set up instead of a shelf-grind? Of course, Tony could have told you that cam would suit the build well. Just wondering.

The cam is his recommendation. With his heads and the intake plus the 11.5 compression and stock pistons the PTV clearance is getting cozy. He recommends this cam for the majority of his 346 builds because of drivability and power combined. He would be better off explaining the reason for those specs. I am new to the LS platform and learning day by day.

ARH 1 7/8 with cats and Corsa Extreme but keeping the TI's just incase those are too loud. Good news is I won't have an issue selling either one after I make my final decision. Your not the only one that says the TI will sound amazing with cam and headers.

Is this Z going to be used just for fun on the street, or will it see some open track/road course use as well??
With a little bit of suspension work/tires, that thing would be a KILLER track set up with that power train combo, especially with the light Mamo RPS clutch, and NO F.I. heat soak to worry about on extended track sessions.

Hold on tight with the new found power. I did an essentially same build using TFS heads on one of my old c5 z06's.
You made a wise decision....high compression matters and that camshaft will bring the power in quickly.
Get yourself a set of Champion beadlocks for the rear with a set of MT ET Pro radials.
Might as well call rpm and get the rear and tranny upgraded while your at it.
When that chap roles up and says he's got Nitrous........Look him straight in the eye and tell him "Good cause you gonna need it"
Best of luck with it.

I am defiantly looking forward to the results. I have been following Darth V8r's and 5 liter eater's build for several months now and I hope mine turns out as good as yours. I've enjoyed your threads and the amount of info given has been awesome. As for my plans with the car? As of now just street fun but I have thought about track use. The car should be done soon and I will keep all posted on the results and most important my reaction to this upgrade.
