Default All Read This Please!!!

2 months ago i did my oil change....2 days ago i was logging my car with a friend while driving and we see my pressure is dropping fast....we pull over and get a ride back to his place....we call over 4 f-body friends and go back to the car.....check the dip stick and it shows hardly any oil....we go buy 4 qurts to put in and start her up....my oil pressure goes up to about 35/40 tops....a small ticking sound could be heard....we drove the car back to his place (1) mile away and let it sit and cool off so we could take off the top that night and check for springs or rods messed up.....we did that and didnt see any damage so we thought it was safe for me to make it back home......well....as i drive home the car gets louder and louder....chirping, ticking, and very loud squeeking...as i drove the pressure was dropping....when i got home it was at 5.....after a few hours of sitting i went out and checked the dip stick and i had enough oil...i started the car and my pressure got to about 25 or 30.....i quickly turned off the car cuz the sound was to much....i felt really sick at that point .......next day i drained my oil and found metal shards on the plug magnet and shards at the bottom of the oil pan....my girlfriend said it looked like glitter....i wont dare try turning the car on again....has anyone else seen or heard what ive spoken about to let me know just how bad this is

Sounds like you ran it low on oil and spun a main bearing.

go ahead and take the engine out. A rebuild is on your list...

Most likely your rod/main bearings are toast. IMO

spun rods/mains... that is all bearing materials the glitter stuff. the more u drove it the worse it got... your low oil pressure (with full oil) means you spun the bearings bad enough to increase the clearances and now you have no or little pressure.

First, find out where the oil went. It either leaked out, or it was burned internally.

If you didn't tighten the filter, drain plug, or fill cap and it leaked out one of those...have someone kick you in the nuts. Hard. Then go shopping for a rebuild.

If there are no signs of leakage, and it burned internally...go shopping for a rebuild.

Dicked, regular oil changes with Modil 1 go along way bro. Good luck to ya.

PS, get a new 6.0 liter C6 block.

Kinda hard to tell how your crank looks from here...given it's somewhere else in the US and still buried inside your engine...but I'm guessing a 50/50 chance it's salvageable with some machinework.

You can grind down the crank some, repolish it, and use under sized bearings if the damage is minimal. The c6 parts are not available yet.

being it was a 383....probably was already overbored to .030 ....couldnt i over bore to .040 making it like a 385....also hopping a can just smooth and polish the crank...the little metal im seeing is a main bearing probably....at this point if i can save the crank and block.....life will be somewhat easier

Is this an LS1 or an LT1 we're talking about?

Also, who built it last time around?

If it's an LT1 block, no problem at all with 0.040" overbore. If it's an LS1, you'd want to check w/ the sleeve manufacturer.

did you have aftermarket heads? did you have to get the pistons shaved? just asking because i had the exact thing happen to me while drivin around about a month ago in my 99 z28 all the same symptoms, oil pressure drop, knocking in engine and the car actually died when i let off the gas so i just pulled it over thinking i had thrown a rod, when actually what happened was that i burned a hole in the top of one of the pistons because i had shaved pistons to fit the z06 heads, and evidentally they were shaved too thin and i was running rich, which doesnt really make sense to be running rich and burn a hole, but maybe you should run a compression test or leak test and see if you have air going back down into the block.
