Default How much to fly cut pistons

I'm not sure if someone better at math than I am can come up with a number or not. But if you can give me an idea how much to cut my new Pistons, then I can get them cut this weekend

here's what I am putting together
Early 5.3 block
Stock crank and rods
Speed pro hypereutectic flat top pistons
Deck is being cut .016 right now. This will put the pistons .010" out of the hole 243 heads cut .030"
BTR stage 4 na cam (235/242 .621/.595 111)
Running stock .051 head gaskets
Any idea how deep I should have them cut?

Fwiw. With the stock 5.3 pistons I had about .060-.080 clearance. These are dished.

Block and crank are at the machine shop right now. Won't have them back till next week at the earliest.

Thanks for any info

You really need to sit the heads on the block and measure once the shortblock is assembled.

i think there is a PTV calculator (in the form of an XML spreadsheet) lurking around somewhere so you can get an idea of how much clearance you have.

but i would still actually physically measure, like muhthugga said. you should never just estimate or calculate with this sort of stuff.

Why not just buy pistons with valve reliefs already in them?

Just so you know the dish pistons don't help with ptv since the valve will hit the high part of the dish.

I honestly didnt even think about that....

You guys are right, i should measure when i get the block back from the machine shop.

But of course, im a pain in the ***. So i went ahead and cut the .090" after doing a lot of research on how deep people cut LS1 flat tops with a very similar combination

OF course i will be measuring once i get everything back. Just the guy i had that could cut them was only available last weekend.

And i have a dyno appt before he will be available again. I hope i dont have to cancel the appt.
