why can't my motor control a TR 230????
I've tried CC987, 978, and crane 832s with no sucess. I've had each spring set up with YT rockers, comp pro mags, and stockers. The car falls on its face at 6000 rpm. No KR, plenty of fuel pressure, and new lifters.
Does my tune suck?
My old stock short block, TEA 5.3, and TR 224 pulled great up to 6600 with the CC987. I bought an ARE short block and swapped to a TR 230 in March of 2003. Car has been dynoed six times, and it hasn't made power past 6000 yet.
This frustrates me more than my golf game.

I had the car tuned by a Sponsor in PA. Mods include lid, SLP MAF, TR TB, SVO 30#, Walboro 255 pump, longtubes, ORY, Magnaflow, and 4.10s along with the TEA 5.3 heads and the TR 230.
Last dyno was a month ago. The A/F above 6000 was at 13.9. This could be messed up by the valves floating. Not sure.

As it sits, the motor has comp r lifters, comp pro mag rockers at zero ( as close as possible) preload, 7.35 pushrods, and CC 978 springs.
initially, the set up was 7.4 pushrods, new stock lifters, YT, CC 987
next was 7.4 pushrods, stock lifters, YT, crane 832
then, i tried 7.3 pushrods, stock lifters, stock rockers, and 832s. Same result, just lower hp(5-6)
after that, I tried 7.35 pushrods, comp r lifters, comp pro mags, and 832s.
talked to TEA, and he suggested an install height issue with the 832 based on how the heads were set up. I then installed CC 978s.

Sounds like everthing is good in that department, weird. The 832's should be fine, may have to shim them is all. I ran 987's with my TR230 and S2 heads and now 832's with the Trex. Something is definately strange here, wish I had a recomendation. I really don't like the Comp r's because of the tight tollerance though. I know somebody with this same issue some time back, I'll check and see what the resolution was..

Send me the current file in your car and I can have a looksee. There would have to be some gross tuning errors for it to be that, I doubt it Does the power plain out, or does it look like the valve loose control and it just fall like a rock?
Where are you located? Fuel pressure under load has been verified to be good, no misfires shown under load, 100 throttle opening checked?
have a dynograph with air/fuel you could show/ or email to me?
The comp promags and Cranes usually dont like each other, is there slight wear on the outside edge on the tip of the Promags?

I'm located 15 min north of York PA. I'm going to try the set up with CC 978s this weekend. This time, I'm bringing a stock MAF and a MAFT to see if I can't sudo tune the curve better. I'll try sending you my last dyno files.
Thanks for the Help! This is more assistance than I've gotten from the place that got my money.

Problem flat out was the Yella Terras. The extra weight on the tip of the rocker compared to a stocker fatigued the springs at high RPM's and caused valve float on my car.
Seat pressure could be an issue, make sure your springs are at the right install height and that you aren't seeing coil bind.....if your seat pressure is marginal then the aftermarket rockers will only amplify things.
7.3" p-rods are too short IMO......in everyone of your test samples, either your pushrod was way to short, or you used aftermarket rockers. A mediocre spring on the verge of seeing too much lift from the cam will see valve float with many aftermarket rockers.
You also need to check your preload on your lifters. Your rockers aren't adjustable so you may need to shim.
My first suggestion would be try stock rockers, stock pushrods, stock lifters, and your springs. If you still endure a problem, then it's not the vavletrain, it's something else.
Is the cam off a tooth?
