Aftermarket shortblocks
I have been waiting to see what kind of performance they are going to get out of SLP's 402 Shortblock. Would the $4000 spent be worth the performance gained. They said it will be out soon so maybe I can see some numbers. Is $4000 about the going rate or do some of our sponsers have a better deal. My 98 LS1 can't be bored and I am looking alternatives. Also is a TR224 Made by Thunder racing? I see alot of Cam Id's but not who sells them. Throw a newbee a bone and respond if possible.

SLP isn't the only option for 4k, I spent around 5k with HPE, if I remember correctly their 408 iron block package base price was 3890 or something like that.
And it is worth doing a short block if you are looking for strong internals for forced induction or other big power adders.
The real question is what do you want to do with your car?

So how far do you want to go? 11's? 12's?
For N/A power your probably looking at a heads and cam package, these come bundled in a lot of good packages that will work great for what your after. Your stock shortblock will also work great for this type of thing unless your looking for big cubes.

I'm also considering the SLP LQ4; the sponsor -------------------->
recently included a thread here. He said it will price at only $3,600. It is internally balanced and has an eagle crank....
I really can't argue with that - it seems like a good deal to me. Some of their earlier advertisments in magazince said you will be able to get it in a 9-to-1 or 10.5-to-1 compression ratio.... I'm not sure if this is still their marketing plan, however.

The best part about it is they will have them preassembled on the shelf ready to ship, no waiting! This was a huge deal to me when I ordered my short block, which took longer than I wanted. And if SLP had them ready a month ago when I was in the market for one, I would have sent them cash same day.

Is that engine still going to feature I beam rods? I haven't talked to our SLP rep to find out yet.
