Default Deck Clearance Question...

What's the "minimum deck clearance" you'd want to run on a stock block. I know there's more you need to know to give me the right answer, so ask away.

I can tell you this, it's going to be a Stock block, and one side is "10 Out" and the other is "5 Out" and the gaskets are .058 Thick. Anything else, feel free to ask!

OK, bump for my question, since I posted it late yesterday, I'm sure some of you guys don't visit the Site from home.

Need this info for my engine builder.

Thanks!

Why is one side 10 out and the other 5 out? Is that the way the block is raw? Does this block have miles on it? I am assuming you are refering to 'out the hole'. I would think you could take 5 off the high deck if the 10 out is clean.

I'm not exactly sure man, he just told me to try and find out what was the Minimum Deck clearance you can/would want to run on a stock block (and yes it's got about 100,000 miles on it) with a 382 Stroker.

Need any more info, ask away!

Thanks again,
Taco

Without getting too involved in an answer, I can say that you will definitely be fine with those heights. Absolute minimum is .035", and that's with top of the line rods.

We have run as much as .015 above deck with stock gaskets without a problem.

You want around .035-.045 piston to head if everything's straight and true with the deck at TDC. With the thick gasket even the stock stuff is out of the hole. Usually you equalize the decks side to side but if it hasn't been machined then it may be different by easily .005 from side to side.

Thanks a million guys!

All we're waiting on now is push rods, parts wise anyway.

That and a little machine work, and I should be rollin again before long!

Can't wait,
Thanks again!
