lifter problems
Ok before i get started yes JRP i searched and found alot of responses but they all conflict each other...
I have a 98 trans am mods in sig.. Long story short i had a lifter tapping and poured some rislone into quiet things down till i could fix it(actually made it silent never heard it again).. well one thing lead to another and now i am using a block out of a 2000 and upgrading some more parts.. Here's my question.. i'm seeing on ebay comp hi energy and comp pro magnum lifters but every one on here just posts.. comp r's comp r's..
i see all kinds of horror stories about shimming and yada yada..
I am using STOCK rockers and want to know do i need to go to a comp lifter on my 231/237 and if i do are there anything wrong with the promagnums or the hi energy's??
also i have never had to set preload is this really that difficult??
Just basically confused looking for some one to point me in the right direction..
TIA.
Mike

I run comp "r" high energy lifters on my trex (242/248@0.050 .608/.612 110 LSA) with stock rockers, no shims on rockers, 7.400 TR pushrods.
As for setting preload, on your stock rockers you just torque them down to spec (22lb/ft I believe) and your done, when you have adjustable rockers, you have to use a different routine for that which involves hand tightening the rocker until there is no slack with the pushrod, then turning the rocker bolt another 1/2 turn (Some people say 3/4).

Comp Cams recommends adjustable rockers only with Comp R lifters.
I use Comp pro magnum rockers adjusted to .008-.010" preload or about 1/5turn.
I would never use the stock rockers...junk.

The stock lifters should be up to the task of a H/C 346. Keep in mind, the motor is appart and the lifters are accessable now. What are the pros/cons of switching to Comp Hi energy or pro Mags? If he does, he would need a set of adjustable rockers. How often does the preload need to be checked in relation to miles, driving habits, etc?
