Default Cylinder Head Cross Sections #317 Casting - 11 hi-res pics, 56K beware?

Here are scans of a single cylinder cross section of a #317
6.0L truck head. You may want to download them for your
own reference (and in case I lighten the load someday after
running out of host space). I compressed the heck out of
them for the bandwidth-challenged, hopefully not to the
point of losing any useful detail though the background is
a little trippy.

All you home aluminum hoggers, enjoy!

I was a bit surprised by these heads when I saw the inside.
First, I was half expecting to see a sharp short-side based
on things I had read in some of the car mags about LS1 style
but these have a really nice looking radius on them. Also there
is really not that much extra material anywhere. Looks like you
can take maybe 100 mils off the rocker bolt bumps before you
breach that hole, I wouldn't go anywhere near that much off
the plain parts of the runner walls. The ports really look like
anything more than simple radiusing would be either useless or
dangerous. Aside from blending the valve guides down, and
maybe dressing the back corner of the valve seats (which
unfortunately did not stay put through the sectioning) there
just doesn't look like that much work to do on these 317s.

Which is not such a bad thing.

Be carefull in the intake port area under spring pockets. Blend and polish only.
