Differance between 6.098 & 6.125 Rods
As the title says. I'm going to be running a stock crank that will be cleaned and polished with 3.905 pistons. Whats the differance between the 2 rods? Advantages and disadvantages? Heres a set i found on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...940009773&rd=1 Whatcha think of em and what else do i need? Maincaps? I will be getting the whole assembly balanced. TIA

The difference is that the 6.098 rods give you a little better bore to stroke ratio. The 6.125" rods are more available due to the fact that they are used in so many different applications it kept costs down before LS1's were very popular etc. They will move the pin location up on the piston a little to make up the difference. I am running that setup you are thinking about buying. I bought the 6.125" due to the fact that they were out of the others and I did not want to wait. The rods are Hawk racing look just like a CAT or Eagle rod. The pistons alone were worth the money MTI had to clearance the rods a little but other than that it is running good and seems to be holding up to the abuse I throw at it every time I get behind the wheel. That is all I know to tell you good luck.

Pistons are listed by what rod they work with. Most aftermarket pistons work with 6.125 rods (a la Diamond, Ross, etc).
Stay with the stock maincaps, but have the line bore checked carefully. Main bearing clearance is critical for oil pressure. I had to have a line bore done when I put together my 383 (even though my block, as a 346, only had 1000 miles). Otherwise my clearance would have been way off (.0035" with +1 bearings ).
