Default OK to dab keepers in grease during install?

I was wondering if the common practice of adding a little grease to your keepers while installing new springs is OK to do on an LS1.

I'm thinking maybe it is not such a good idea for the same reasons assembly lube is not recommended (clogging stuff up, etc..)

Thanks.
