Default How long do aftermarket springs last? on avg?

my car is internally stock, and i did a search and nothing came up about this one particular question. IF i was do a cam swap, i see on here, you cant just forget about the springs and they have to replaced, even if i bought a mid size cam with the best spring possible. If thats the case, how long do stock springs last then? thanks!

depends on the agressiveness of the lobes. Could be a few thousand miles or 20>30 K.

then how come if you buy full crate engines and such from summit or what have you and they run for over 100k without changing any springs? my friend bought a 350 from summit, has over 100k on it, no problems, so why dont the springs hold up forever like they stock ones? 20 or 30k is peanuts!

I was told when I ordered my torquer to chem em at 15k miles but not to necessarily replace them. He said since my car doesn't see the track that they could last 30-35k miles. I use the Patriot Golds btw.

If the cam has XER lobes or something similar, they recomend changing them at 15,000 miles. I've got 15,000 miles on a TR224, and the Comp 918 springs I used for that install are still fine. And that is with bouncing off the rev limiter at 6750 rpm all last summer. The seat presure is still right at 130 lbs. But I'm still going to replace them anyway with my new cam install this weekend, just so I won't have to worry about them again for another 15,000 miles.

Any spring can last over 100k easy. But you stick a monster cam behind them and the story changes. What cam is in the 350? I bet it's smaller than the Hotcam. And that is one of the small ones for our cars. Hotcam with ls6 springs can go for 100k miles easy also.
And no one is saying the springs WILL break at 30k. Just after that much abuse the cost of springs is peanuts compared to the cost of a new motor if there happens to be a failure. Most people are putting cams in that are close to the MAX rating for the spring to handle anyhow. Just called cheap insurance.
Our cars can only handle a small OD spring in stock form. that is what holds us back.

Exactly. And don't forget to factor in the quality of the springs, and how bad you beat on the car. With my cam and springs (Torquer and PRC duals) and moderate driving, it would be a good idea for me to check the seat pressure at 10k-15k miles, and every so often after that. When it gets below the manufacturer's minimum spec, replace them.

I didnt say anything about how good or bad the hotcam was. I'm not a hotcam hater, I had one myself and loved it. I was actually complimenting your cam on it's durability.
