Default When installing a cam, do you have to remove the intake manifold?

I did a cam job on my buddies car who had a LT1 and I had to remove the intake. Ive heard that you dont have to do it with the LS1. Can someone tell me why I had to remove the intake on a LT1 and why I dont on a LS1? Its been several months since Ive seen a LT1 and forgot why. Thanks

No idea about the LT1, but you won't need to take the intake off. You will need to disconnect the coolant lines from the throttle body though. I've got some pics of a cam swap on a C5, you can see everything that needs to come out from there. Just click on my homepage link and then it's under Installs in the menu that will come up.

Because on the LT1 you have to pull the lifters out to remove the cam, which are under the intake. On an a LS1 the lifters are accessed by pulling the cylinder heads, although you don't have to pull them out for a cam swap. The lifters will stay in the plastic lifter guides by themselves after you rotate the camshaft before you remove it.
