not right place but v6 ?s egr
I have a 94 firebird v6 3.4 the egr is bad and my light comes on when i floor it then it smells like nasty burnt fuel. can i just delete it from my engine cap it off my exhaust manifold and my intake manifold. and not worry about it anymore. What will happen if done like this? They cost 229 at the parts store for one that is why i want to do this. any gains? thanks for any help i couldnt find a v6 forum with the answer and you guys have helped me alot on my ls1

Hello: You might get a problem with the motor pinging badly under acceleration if you try to delete it. This is what happened to my old 3.8 Buick motor. But that motor was an 83 with a carb, so not sure on an FI motor. Your check engine light would also stay on I think. Don't know if there is any software or way to delete it. The old Monte Carlo SS's are getting scarce people are holding on to them and fixing them up. prices are $2,500 and up. If your looking for one to swap in an Ls1 motor you might be able to get a rolling chassis without motor and trans. This is what a local guy in my area did. He swapped in a 5 speed and a tpi 350 motor. Not as hard to do as an Ls1. Good Luck

How do you know it's the egr?
Firebirdv6.com has a lot of info on the v6 cars, there are still quite a few 3.4 guys there.
You can delete it, but you will get a light under certain conditions.
It shouldn't be operating when you floor it anyway. It's only supposed to come on under light throttle. Not at idle and not at wot.
