LS6 vs. LQ9...Which one????
Guys,
I am planing on switching out my 5.3L in my 2004 SSR with either a 2004 LS6 or a 2004 LQ9 6.0L. I am looking for the most HP with the least mods.
I am assuming that the major difference beside the displacement is the cam which gives the LS6 the edge in HP, buy how would the LS6 cam do in the LQ9 6.0L? Similar HP to a stock LS6 or?
Help me guys out on my decision. I want to still run the truck intake as I have heard that it flows better in the under 5500 RMP range. I will do some head work in addition to a little stronger cam like the LS6 cam.
What do you think?

The LQ9 will be hard to find IMO because they only came in the Silverado SS's (Ext. version) and the Escalade AWD models. The LQ9 is an iron block which means it weighs approximately around 85lbs more than an LS6. The LS6 has a CP of 10.7:1 and the LQ9 has 10:1. However, just for thought. An LQ4 (9.47:1 CP) with LS6 heads and an 02 LS6 cam will equal 400HP.
Hope this helps,
Philip S.

I went the LQ9 route (forged internals) with stock LQ9 heads for now, but with a 244/248 cam that came with it so that should produce some decent results in the meantime while I earn back some money to do more mods. I like the idea of an iron block much better than aluminum. Just an FYI, you can spray these blocks with a lot less worries, if you're gonna go that route.
