Poll: What type of 408 would you build?
With parts below what type of setup would you guys chose to build if after having your 408 for 2 years were going to either go Turbo, Super, Procharger, Nitrous, or leave it N/A? Motor has to be streetable( meaning can sit in traffic, run ac, etc...) and run on 90-92 octane.
408ci iron block
New 6.0L block
Eagle Forged LS1 Crank 4" Stroke
Callies LS1 Rods
Diamond Pistons
Diamond Pro-Select Rings
Federal Mogul Main Bearings
Federal Mogul Rod Bearings
Clevite Cam Bearings
ARP Main Studs
Custom Cam
LS6 Ported oil pump
Rollmaster Double Adj timing chain
Comp Cams Lifters(850-16's)
Stage 3 Heads
#1 - Leave it Completely N/A for ever or a long time, with high compression 11.1 shooting for 500 hp/tq
#2 - Build motor with low compression so in 2 years you could go Turbo, Supercharger, Procharger
#3 - Build motor same as #1 but with a few nitrous type parts and then in 2 years throw nitrious on it.
I ask because I am having a motor built and can't decide. I want, like everyone else with a 408, wants it to be streetable and have 500 hp/tq right off the bat. But I most likely won't achieve this goal with a low compression N/A motor for the first 2 years. So I'm just polling to see what others think just for fun. Thanks

ya, definately give 1 of these big tie names a call, like futral, you can put enough power down all motor to satisfy all your hp needs.
btw that is 1 sick looking vette george, gotta love those ccw's!

It just depends on what YOU want out of the setup.. What kinda times do you wanna run, what kind of dependability do you want, how much money do you wanna spend?
Personally, I would build the motor to have around 11:1 CR and with a big roller cam, a nice set of AFR's, Fast 90/90, nice fuel system, and it should put down 550rwhp no problem. Then you can put the jug on it if you want to go faster!
If you go with a turbo or a supercharger you will be spending about $5-6k more to get a nice kit that performs well. And they will just put more wear and tear on the motor.. Thats why, if you are gonna be driving this car alot and putting some miles on it then IMHO you should build it to run good N/A and then spray it if you need to go a lil faster.

build a NA motor now, with some good heads, and such. then when you want to go FI get a different set of heads that will lower the compression to something that FI would be more happy with.

Looks like most people seem to prefer the spray motor. I think soild roller would be too high maintenance, in regards to checking valvetrain all the damn time. I would rather it be 95% street car and 5% track.

Build a N/A motor for sure.....Unless you plan on racing, which is meant for the track, not the street, then a blower is the way. Having a car with a compression ratio that can run on the street on pump gas, and be lighting fast in throttle response due to a calculated setup will ultimately give you the best of both worlds. You will have a bulletproof motor that can idle and be a daily driver, yet pound the pavement when you want to have a little fun.......keep us posted on what you decide.........

I think Denzil is running 12.X:1 on pump gas on his 408 and he's from the KC area so he might be able to help ya out.
