Default Ideal Na Compression Ratio/ Head Question

I was looking at getting some heads for my car (4000+ stall, 4.11s, 28" tire, 228/232 cam) but Im a little confused about what compression ratio to run. For a NA 346 setup is it ideal to run around 11.1? Is it possible to get a set of LQ9 6.0 ltr casting 317 truck heads to make that compression? If so, what would have to be done to them? what gaskets? Will they clear a big cam?

The ideal ratio IMHO is the max amount you can get away with on the pump gas available in your area. As long as the heads arent milled you can get away with JUST about any cam. there are a few that will require flycuts depending on how big you want to go though.

That's the only bad thing about 6.0 heads. You have to mill the crap out of them to get compression. If you want to stick with the 6.0 casting, you should get a set of the Patriot 59cc castings. You can buy them bare with nothing more than the chambers cut. The welded design allows you to keep all you P/V clearence, and still have the larger ports. Then you can have whomever you want work them over.

If you're running pump gas, you'll want to keep your dynamic compression at or below 8.5 to 1. You can hit that with stock static compression of 10 to 1 or with a static compression of 13 to 1. It all depends on the valve events of the cam you choose.
