Default Short block pricing?

I was wondering what justified the ~2K price difference in a 383 over a 347? They both involve replacing the stock internals without altering the block.

Also does anyone know off hand what the average price for a new shortblock install is?

what justifies it is the extra displacement and added tq from the 4" stroke.

the 4" stroke crank easily makes up that 2k difference in price. a good stroker crank and accompanying machine work will run just about 2k.

So the cylinders have to be machined in order to go 383?

I dont think the price should be +2 grand just because the added displacement makes more power. A 200 shot nitrous jet doesnt cost more than a jet for a 100 shot. If it's absolutely necessary to machine the block for clearance then I can understand that. I was thinking that it didnt have to be done.

Anyone know a ballpark of what shops charge for a motor swap(labor). I dont think I'd be able to do it in my driveway, by myself. By the way, what kind of timeframe are you looking at until your on the road with your STS?

what's cost more is the assembly and with a 347 you don't have to replace the crank. You just use the stock one.

There is no extra machine work needed for the 4 inch crank. The extra cost depends on the crank that the shop is using.

i would think that another 2k is quite a bit more, unless you are using a high end crank,
on a 383 we charge about $900 more if using an Eagle crank, due to the cost of the crank and a small amount of clearance work on the block. using an Eagle crank I can do a 383ci LS1 for $3839.99(no core required) plus shipping

The price difference is in the reliability/safety comparison between nitrous and a stroker setup. You can't compare an N/A power adder to a non in terms of price. Also, you only need a light hone for a 383 kit.

I was just using the nitrous jet comparison as an example. I forgot that the stock crank is retained in a 347 setup, as it should be.

If I get a 383, I plan to have a kit on it for the big fish.

Nobody knows anyone who had a motor put in or an idea of what a swap would cost?
