Default Cracked oil pan...... GRRR...

Over halfway done with the heads/cam install (TEA stage 1.5 5.3 heads, 220/224 .581 114 cam). Cam in, timing cover on, heads being bolted on.

On the last bolt (front passenger's side) of the oil pan..... POP. Cracked across the corner.

Now what??

Do I need to drop the engine, take the engine out completely, undo the front suspension, what?

Or, is there some way to fix it? I doubt it though.

Any ideas on how much a new pan is? Should I get a stock one, or aftermarket?

Thanks in advance.

I think you should just get a stocker. You can jack the engine up a bit so you have room; no need to take the entire thing out.

Well, I found the part # 12558762. Only like $150.

Money I didn't want to spend, but oh well. That's how it goes......

I really hope nothing else goes wrong.

It dosent SOUND that bad, but a pic would help. It may be repairable.

It's a hairline crack from one corner to the other corner on the front passenger side bolt.

what he said, its not that hard, just get the bolts on either side of the Kmember, drop them down about 3 inches or so, lift the engine and its cake.

First off, IT IS A PAIN IN THE ASSSSSS!!! I just now at 13:35 got the pan out. When you take the k-member bolts out, take four of the bolts out but keep the front two(one on each side) in. You will have to pull down on the k-member in order to get it out. Plan on buying a new pan gasket. I have an A4, and I had to take the one crossmember nut off the tranny crossmember. I also took out the starter, it made more room. Its only two bolts. I had just finished a h/c install when I had 80psi oil pressure via a high flow oil pump, when all of the sudden my oil pressure went to 0. After changing the oil pump(which is easy, except for that damn 1 bolt holding the pick-up tube on) I turned the motor over to find still no oil pressure. Anyway, my pick-up tude was completly blocked! I MEAN COMPLETLY! It look like a paper towel or something. I getting a new oil pan gasket ($50!) right now. Good luck and be patient!
